Before he became an automotive industrialist, Ferruccio Lamborghini served as a vehicle maintenance specialist in the Italian Air Force during the Second World War. Placed on the island of Rhodes for most of the conflict, he gained a reputation for using scrap metal to fashion spare parts for his machines.
