Single Mom Used Tragedy as Motivation to Start Traveling the World With Her Young Daughter!

It was late Winter in 2015 when Evie Farrell, a 43-year-old single mother from Sydney, watched her friend slowly dwindle away from cancer. They say that death is what makes life meaningful, but for most people losing a loved one is just tragic. Ms. Farrell chose to honor the passing of her friend by doing what the pair had always talked about: seizing life and not letting it pass by. A few months later Evie and her six year old daughter, Emmie, packed their bags and started traveling the world.  The Adventure Begins

Initially Evie and Emmie had planned on just traveling around the world for a year. The goal was to get out there and just ‘see the world’ and take it all in, a symbolic gift to her recently departed friend. However as the year went by Evie and Emmie were quickly realizing something.

  The New Normal

Evie quickly realized that the traveling was doing wonders for her child and she too was beginning to feel like a new person. The duo came to the conclusion that they weren’t ready to come home and that the traveling would continue until the spark faded.

 A Financial Challenge

In order to finance the journey Evie would end up withdrawing every penny that she had tucked away into her savings account. Their starting balance was around $30,000 AUD. The trip began last February and the duo are still out on the road.

  Keeping the Trip Alive

Keeping yourself financially viable without holding a regular job can be pretty darn difficult. Evie decided that she would rent out her house back in Sydney in order to use the rent as their travel fare. Evie stated, “My savings have all but gone, but we’re lucky as we still have rent coming in.”
